The world’s largest diamond has been found in Botswana, South Africa. A 2492 carat diamond has been found in the Cairo mine of a Canadian company named Lucara Diamond. This diamond is the largest diamond found so far after the 3016 carat diamond found in South Africa in 1905.
This Caro mine is located 500 kilometers away from Gaberon, the capital of Botswana. This is the same mine in which the 1758 carat Sewelo Diamond was found in 2019. That diamond was bought by the French fashion company Louis Vuitton.
In the same Caro mines, in the year 2017, the 1111 carat Lesedi La Rona Diamond was found, which was bought by a British jeweler for Rs 444 crore. Botswana is a place in the world where 20% of the world’s diamonds are produced. That is, it is the largest diamond producing place.
Lukra Diamond Company says that it is very happy to have found this diamond. They said that this diamond has been found with the help of their mega diamond recovery technology. Now the company is engaged in polishing this 2492 carat diamond.
Last month, a new mining law was introduced in Botswana, which states that once a company gets a license, it will give a 24% stake to local investors.
Although a 2492 carat diamond has been found in the Cairo mine, the Cullinan Diamond found in South Africa in 1905 is still considered the most valuable diamond in the world. It was gifted to a British king Edward V in 1907. This diamond was cut into 9 pieces of different shapes and sizes.
The Cullinan Diamond is also known as the Great Star of South Africa because its largest piece is carved into the scepter of King Charles of Britain. Its second and largest piece is embedded in the state grounds of the Imperial Royal Family.
